Urgent Care Q&A

What is an Urgent Care Visit?

Visits to the physician which are made without an appointment and require immediate or prompt attention from the doctor are referred to as urgent care visits. Commonly, urgent care visits are also deemed walk-ins because they do not require an appointment. This is common and frequently patients wait have to wait in the office until a doctor is available. Issues which would fall under the urgent care category include:

  • Rash
  • Earache
  • Bad cough
  • Sore throat
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Moderate injury or accident

These visits are meant to address minor but serious medical issues. For more severe issues and appointments for preventative services or a chronic illness, patients should call the office to schedule a consultation. For medical emergencies such as shortness of breath, threatening injuries, or chest pains, immediately proceed to the emergency room nearest you.

What Should I Do When I Arrive at the Urgent Care Center?

Patients will speak to the receptionist upon arrival at the urgent care center to make sure the issue does not require emergency attention or can wait for a regular appointment. When the patient speaks with the receptionist or nurse, he or she will need to describe all the symptoms and sensations present in detail. This will assist the nurse or receptionist to determine if the patient has to proceed to the ER and will also help when the patient is being assessed by the doctor.

When Should I Visit an Urgent Care Clinic?

You should proceed to the urgent care center when you require timely medical treatment for an illness or injury which began or took place recently.
